Technical Personnel
Severn Norge AS has made significant investments in building and maintaining a business that is focused on technical expertise and able to support all aspects of our valve management services.
The Performance Plus team, which is based in our Huddersfield Valve Innovation Centre, provides highly specialized expertise within failure analysis, field surveys, upgrades and retrofit engineering.
The team is led by a technical director and consists of 6 special applications and design engineers, a team of 8 CAD draughtsmen and 4 specialized field engineers, who carry out site inspections and client support visits.
The team has access to resources from across the Severn Glocon Group, including design engineering programs (FEA, CfD, CAD/CAM).
The Oil & Gas technical services team consists of 4 mechanical/piping engineers who are all experienced in isolation valve applications. The engineering team focuses on repair inspections, as this is key to analysing the condition of valves and respective failure modes. Their reports are then presented to our asset engineers and include repair and replacement options.
The team is responsible for a range of other activities, including technical support to the procurement process, maintenance strategy reviews, detailed project engineering activities, on-site surveys and pre-shutdown condition reviews.

Staff Development and Competence management
Severn Unival Ltd is centred around its engineering ability, and our technical personnel are key to our business. As a company, we support a full engineering apprenticeship scheme, taking in 3 new apprentices each year. We also operate an engineering graduate scheme that introduces young engineers into the business and takes them across the design, applications and technical support departments.
Our quality management system is ISO 9000:2008 accredited. Management procedure OP13 provides the system and the policies for the management of our business competence. Originally set up to support technical competence in our workshops, it now extends across all operations.
Our technicians are placed and rated according to their level of expertise (bronze/silver/gold-categories) – and based on the needs of our workshops. In order to advance from one level to the next, individuals have to participate and be assessed according to a range of in-house and external field training activities. Technicians are evaluated annually, and training plans are set up individually.
Our engineers are evaluated during the initial recruitment process and have to comply with an HND minimum standard. Annual reviews are carried out within the context of our Personal Development Programme, and subsequent development training is designed to fit individual needs.
All training and competence development is co-ordinated by our human resources specialist in conjunction with the needs of our business, and is approved by the company MD. Offshore training such as BOSIET, HUET, Medicals, Leg Entry is co-ordinated in Bergen & Huddersfield, and our reporting systems ensure that personnel are always in compliance with applicable standards before travelling offshore or to international sites.
